Albert David Downs

Albert David Downs, 62, of Felton, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital in Dover.

Albert was born on April 3, 1962, in Camden, NJ, to the late John P. and Marilyn Margaret (Kahler) Downs.

Albert's life was characterized by a profound love for the great outdoors, an affinity he turned into a rewarding career as a self-employed commercial fisherman. His work history also included M+Ms Hunting Lodge and driving cars for the Amish community in Dover. In his youth, Albert's industrious nature shone through as he helped at his father's gas station, later channeling that experience into running his own service station.

Those who had the pleasure of Albert's company will remember him as the embodiment of generosity, kindness, and friendliness. Whether he was doling out sage advice or sharing a laugh with his infectious, youthful humor, Albert impacted many lives. Never missing an opportunity to show his love, he would often surprise his wife with wildflowers picked from the roadside. Albert's legacy is that of a life well-lived and a community bettered by his heart of gold. His spirit will be greatly cherished and deeply missed.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 31 years JoAnne Elizabeth Downs; his daughter Katlyn Marie Downs and her boyfriend, who was like a son to Albert, Alton Ace Finney; his brother John P. Downs Jr.; his nephews JR Downs and Ethan Downs; and Khloe and Kollene, who were like grandchildren to him.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at 11:00am at Berry-Short Funeral Home, 217 E. Main St. Felton, DE 19943. A time of visitation will be held prior from 10:00am-11:00am at the funeral home. Interment is private.
