Audrey Govatos, born on August 23, 1943, in Chestertown, Maryland, peacefully passed away on May 30, 2024, at the age of 80. She was the daughter of William Clyde Poore Sr and Anna Pauline Johnston of Smyrna, Delaware.
Audrey leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her son Glenn and wife Rachel, granddaughter Sophie, daughter Crystal, grandson Kyle and wife Heather, and great-grandchildren Wyatt and Faith.
Known for her warm, caring nature, Audrey always prioritized others before herself. She had a deep love for children, animals, and charity work. Audrey dedicated over 35 years to serving students in the Lake Forest School District and served as Bus Driver #31 for D&N Bus Service. She was an active supporter of the Special Olympics, raising funds as a proud member of the Lewes Polar Bear Plunge Crew for over 25 years.
Audrey was admired for her straightforward and honest opinions, even if they were at times too transparent, but that is who we loved. Her quick passing has left those who knew her deeply saddened and in disbelief. Audrey will be profoundly missed and will forever hold a special place in our hearts. She was truly one of a kind.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, June 8, 2024, in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Services, 119 N.W. Front Milford, Del., where a time of visitation for family and friends will begin at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Special Olympics of Delaware, 619 S. College Avenue, Newark, DE 19716 in memory of Audrey Govatos.
