Barbara A. Caldwell, 77, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2024, in Milford, DE. Born in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Dominic and Mabel (Hoover) Matonte, on January 3, 1947, Barbara moved to Williamsport, Pennsylvania when she was young. She spent most of her life in Williamsport, where she was married, raised her son, and led a successful career at AAA North Penn, ultimately becoming a Vice President. Barbara was beloved in her community and could rarely go anywhere without seeing someone she knew or starting a conversation with strangers to make a new friend. Barbara finally settled in Ellendale, Delaware, where she lived close to her loved ones for the last ten years.
Barbara was a proud New Yorker and was sure to let everyone know. Barbara was the life of the party, and always the first one to open her home up to family and friends for any occasion. Her love of reading, travelling, cooking, and listening to music will be remembered; but the love she had for her family exceeded them all, especially her two granddaughters.
She will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 49 years, John Caldwell, son; Joshua (Lindsey) Caldwell, grandchildren; Sidney Caldwell, Sara Caldwell, siblings; Laelani Carpenter, Linda Breniser, and Robert Matonte.
A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 11:00am – 12:00pm at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton, DE 19968. A time of remembrance will be held at noon to share memories of Barbara’s life. A celebration of life will be held for Barbara in Williamsport, PA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Brandywine SPCA and the Alzheimer’s Association.
