Barbara J. Marvel

MILTON – Barbara J. (Ridington)Marvel passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 31, 2022.

Barbara was born in Upland, Pennsylvania daughter of the late Howard and Irma (Buck) Ridington.

Barbara worked for many years operating a bookkeeping machine with the Chester Cambridge Division of Philadelphia National Bank. She relocated to Delaware in 1956 after her husband was discharged from the Navy. She was a homemaker and worshipped at the old Milton Wesleyan Church, now known as The Water’s Edge Church, especially children’s ministries like teaching Sunday School and VBS, as well as, organizing church functions.

Barbara enjoyed summers at her family’s cottage at Broadkill Beach. She spent many days there enjoying the beach, and it is where she eventually met her husband, James Marvel. After they were married, and James was honorably discharged from the US Navy, they made their home in Milton.

Barbara loved her Lord first and foremost, her family, and dogs.

In addition to her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, James, who passed away in 2019.

She is survived by her daughter, Stacy Shaffer and husband Glen; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family; and her beloved grand-dog, Jamie.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life at 1:00pm on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at the graveside, in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton, De. Pastor Tim Wilson will officiate.
