Barbara Jane Fournier

Barbara Jane Fournier (Hepfer), born December 2, 1934, age 87, died peacefully on September 12, 2022 at Pinnacle Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Smyrna, Delaware.

Barbara was a 1952 graduate of Tipp City High School, in Ohio. After high school, she worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base where she met her future husband, Joseph Armand Fournier, Jr. They married in 1957 and traveled the world during his military career with the United States Air Force. After moving to Delaware in 1963, Barbara raised three children, worked as a teacher's aide at Lake Forest North Elementary School, and later in life worked as secretary to the late Senator Thomas Sharp and Governor Ruth Ann Minner. Barbara finished her career as a bill reader for the Delaware State Senate.

Mrs. Fournier was a past member of Holy Cross Church. She enjoyed singing and playing piano in the choir. Being a grandmother and great-grandmother was her greatest joy. She was known by all who loved her as "Meme".

She is survived by her children, Kathy A. Lane of Middletown, Delaware (husband Steve Lane), Lori K. Green (husband David Green) and Joseph A. Fournier III, both of Tucson, Arizona, with five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings, and her husband.

A viewing will take place at Berry-Short Funeral Home 217 E. Main St. Felton, Delaware on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Burial services will be private for immediate family with interment at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, Delaware. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Compassionate Care Hospice: “Amedisys Foundation”, 3854 American Way Suite A, Baton Rouge, LA 70816, or to Alzheimer's research.
