Barbara Whitney-Ross

July 9, 1938 — June 25, 2024

Barbara Whitney-Ross transitioned to glory on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 6:21 am in Bayhealth Medical Center – Kent Campus.

Her earthly journey began on July 9th, 1938, in White Plains, NY to the late Harry and Vivian Vose Whitney. She was the youngest of two children. Her brother Donald passed in 2011. She spent most her childhood and early adult life in Weymouth, Massachusetts. She graduated from Weymouth High School.

She was married to Norman Fulton Ross for 59 years. To this union was born two daughters Kimberly Ross-Tilley and Michelle Lee Ross. She has one grandson, Nicholas Ross Tilley who resides in Pennsylvania.

She relocated to Delaware after her husband retired. Barbara worked for over thirty years for the State of Delaware, Division of Disability Services. In addition, she was the organist for St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Harrington for over 35 years. She remained active in the Felton Fire Hall Auxiliary, Avon Club, and the Moose Lodge. She provided voluntary services for Bayhealth Medical Center with the Caesar Rodney Wellness Center for many years. Barabara was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She truly valued family life. She was always kind and respectful to all and had a very strong faith. Barbara was meticulous about her hair and dress. She could not survive without her daily Dunkin doughnuts and coffee. Music was a part of her soul. She and Kim attended over 100 Musical Concerts all over the United States. Every year they would enjoy a family trip, by car, by plane or ship. Their most recent trip was to Italy, returning just 2 days prior to her passing.

She will be truly missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition 165 Commerce Way Dover, DE 19904 302-672-6435. Services will be held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church 190 Raughley Hill Road Harrington, DE 19952 on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 11 am. Family and friends are invited to gather for fellowship and refreshments immediately following the church service.
