Bessie Pepper Wilson

GEORGETOWN – Bessie Pepper Wilson passed away peacefully, at her son’s home in Oklahoma, on Thursday, December 15, 2022.


Bessie was born and raised in Georgetown, Delaware daughter of the late Thomas Ralston Pepper, Sr., and Laura Elizabeth (Wilson) Pepper.


Bessie spent her life caring for others. She began her nursing career with the Stockley Center in Georgetown and then worked for 25 years as a LPN at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where she retired in 1995. After retiring Bessie lovingly cared for her grandchildren, many friends and family members; as well as, volunteering with Delaware Hospice. She was enthusiastically involved in the exercise program at the Cheer Center for many years and was also an active member of The Grace Church in Milton.


In her spare time Bessie loved to work in her flower garden, especially growing roses and feeding her hummingbirds.


In addition to her parents, Bessie is preceded in death by her husband, Elwood R. Wilson in 2019; and her son, Steve Houston in 2020.


She is survived by her six sons, Robert Houston, David Houston, John Houston, Philip Houston, Mark Houston and Daniel Houston; one daughter, Ruth E. Houston; 11 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren; her brother, Thomas R. Pepper, Jr.; two nephews; and extended family.


As per Bessie’s wishes, the funeral service and burial will be held privately.


In lieu of flowers, Bessie’s request was that memorial contributions are made to: Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, Del 19963.
