Betty Jane Hitchens, 92, of Milford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 13, 2024, in Wilmington.
Betty was born on June 15, 1931, in Milford to the late Benjamin and Sally (Donovan) Potter.
Betty worked at Milford High School for 25 years in the cafeteria. Throughout the years, she also worked at a dry cleaners and the spoon mill in Milford. She loved cleaning, crocheting, and reading. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Howard George Hitchens; her sisters, Stella Warnock and Shirley Stevenson; and her brothers, Willard Potter, Benjamin Potter, and Horace Potter.
She will be greatly missed by her sons, Mickey Hitchens, Rudy Hitchens (Terri), and Chris Hitchens (Tracy) all of Milford; her grandchildren, Michael Hitchens (Tanya), Jenna Justice (Rick), Cory Dunt (Kelli), Trevor Dunt (Marisa), Nicole Richards (David), Samantha Huey, and Michaela Huey; as well as 5 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at noon at Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St. Milford, DE 19963. A time of visitation for family and friends will begin at 11. Interment will follow at Milford Community Cemetery.
