Bonnie Jean Jaspers

Bonnie Jean Jaspers, 65, of Harrington, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, after a brief battle with ALS. Bonnie was born in Camden, New Jersey, on October 12, 1959, to the late Edward and Dorothy Burckart.

Bonnie spent 25 years as an elementary school teacher in Oregon and Michigan and taught hundreds of students, including both of her sons, Andrew and Nic. Beyond the classroom, she faithfully served as a church secretary for 20 years in Iowa and Pennsylvania, working alongside her husband, Steve, to support his ministry.

After retiring to Delaware, Bonnie settled into a slower pace of life. She loved living near the beach and being able to visit family and friends. She also enjoyed walking in nearby state parks, the thrill of a good thrift find, hosting people in her home, and playing table games with friends and family. Bonnie loved to bake and feed others, and it was impossible to leave her house without a treat under your arm or snuck into your car.

An avid scrapbooker, Bonnie enjoyed creating books and calendars to remember her loved ones. She was tenacious, bold, and never afraid to ask for a picture of her grandkids or extra rolls at Texas Roadhouse. She was happiest when she was spending time with family, her church community, and childhood friends. Her sense of humor and warm laughter were infectious to those around her, and even in the end, she found ways to infuse laughter into the hardest of situations. More than anything, she was a devoted wife, mother, Mimi, sister, and friend who poured love and care into the lives of those she cherished.

She will be greatly missed by her husband of 42 years, Steve; her son, Andrew, his wife, Ashley, and their children, Cora, Graham, and August; her son, Nic, his wife, Khrystyne, and their children, Zeke and Taliyah; and her siblings, Brenda (Dean), Bob (Burckart), and Brent (Burckart).

A memorial service will take place at Calvary Baptist Church in Georgetown, Delaware, on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM with a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Arrangements are in the care of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Milford, Delaware.
