Capt. Leonard J. Ott was a cherished brother, father, grandfather, and friend who left us suddenly on November 15, 2023 at age 80.
He was born to Charles J. Ott and Hildegard Beierle on July 15, 1943, in Brooklyn, NY.
A proud member of both the Navy and the Air Force, Leonard served for over 20 years before retiring. During his time in service, he earned numerous awards and honors, including the rank of Captain. Leonard was a distinguished alumnus of the first Physician Assistant training program at Dartmouth University.
On warm days, Leonard could often be found tending to his garden, following in his father’s footsteps, and nurturing a variety of flowers, vegetables, and fruits. He took immense pride in his cooking and delighted in sharing his culinary creations with others. His love for gardening and cooking will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
In his younger years, Leonard was an avid fisherman and enjoyed casting his line and waiting for a bite. He was known for his quick wit and sense of humor, and his jokes and stories never failed to bring laughter to the faces of his friends and family.
Leonard is survived by his siblings, John Ott, Hildi Franchio, Josephine Cilea, Christina Shaughnessy (John); and children, Dawn Mathes (Gary), Diane Sabado (Francisco), Lori Ott and Donald Ott; as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on November 29th, 2023, from 12-1pm at Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St. Milford DE 19963, followed by graveside services at 2 pm at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, DE.
