Carlton A. Rust

Carlton A. Rust, 96, of Milford, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.

Carlton was born on July 27, 1927, in Redden, DE, to the late Charles A. and Ratie (Donovan) Rust.

Carlton worked in civil service at the Dover Airforce Base for 32 years. In his younger years, he was a veteran of the US Army and a farmer. He attended McColley’s Chapel and Ellendale Methodist Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, evident by his bountiful vegetable garden and perfectly-kept lawn. He amassed an impressive collection of NASCAR model cars. He was an avid Phillies fan, and also enjoyed Wii Bowling at home.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, June C. Rust; his son-in-law, Rick Hazzard; his siblings, Fred Rust, Norman Rust, Edith Insley, and Charles Rust; and his grandchildren, Joanna and Joshua Smith.

He will be greatly missed by his five children, Linda Smith of Charlotte, NC, Thomas Rust (Patti) of Milford, DE, Michele Adair of Arnold, MD, Carla Hazzard of Milford, DE, and William Rust (Laura) of Milford, DE; his sister, Gladys Wilson of Redden, DE; six granddaughters, Rebekah, Abigail, Rachel, Melissa, Ashley, and Jennifer; six great grandchildren and one more on the way; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at 11:00am at Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St. Milford, DE 19963. A time of visitation will begin at 10:00am.
