Carlton Ray Adams, Sr.

MILLSBORO – Carlton Ray Adams, Sr., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. Ray was born in Seaford, Delaware son of the late Norval I. and Hilda C. (Wilson) Adams. Ray was a lifetime resident of Sussex County and worked for many years with Bunting and Murray Construction as an equipment operator. When he was not working, he enjoyed being outdoors, especially fishing, auto racing, and attending tractor pulls. In addition to his parents, Ray is preceded in death by a son, Carlton Ray Adams, Jr., a grandson, William M. “Will” Watson, and a sister, Charlotte Pianka. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Charlotte (Hitchens) Adams; four daughters, Carol Layton, Caroline McCray, Claralee Adams, and Charlotte Kowalski; eight grandchildren, several great and great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Nelson Adams and Irvin Adams; his wife’s sons, Raymond Lee Wilson and wife Melissa, Richard Wilson, and their families; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. A graveside funeral will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at Union Cemetery, S. Race and Adams Streets, Georgetown, Delaware 19947.
