Cathy A. Draper

FELTON - Cathy Adams Draper passed away at home on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. She was born on September 29, 1948, in Dover to the late Richard and Rose Adams. Cathy graduated from Felton High School in 1966 and was a member of the Felton Alumni Association. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Education from Salisbury State College in 1970 and taught for the Lake Forest School District for 30 years, the last 27 spent at Lake Forest East Elementary. She was an active member of the Frederica Spring Creek Lions Club for 13 years, holding many offices and serving as chairperson for projects and serving on committees. She was Lion of the Year for Frederica Spring Creek in 2011 and served as president from 2012-2014. During her term, she started the Reading Action Program at Lake Forest North Elementary for kindergarten classes, a program still done today. She served as Administrative Assistant for District 22D in 2017-2018. Cathy is a Melvin Jones Fellow, the highest recognition a Lion can receive, a Ralph Helm Fellow, and a James A. McCarty Fellow. She also received the International President’s Certificate of Appreciation. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Adams, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ron Draper; daughters, Amy Draper (Drew Zimmer) and Beth Draper (Donnie Scott); grandson, Tevin Thomas (Makinsie Balderson); and brother, Keith Adams. A visitation will be held in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 217 Main St., Felton, DE on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, from 11 am - 1 pm, followed by funeral services at 1 pm. Interment will be at Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington. Masks are optional. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Delaware Hospice 911 S. DuPont Hwy. Dover, DE 19901.
