Chet Walter

March 31, 1934 — October 20, 2023

Chester “Chet” Pheil Walter, 89, of Milford, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Delaware.

Chet was born in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, on March 31, 1934, to the late Chester Sellers and Mary Adela (Pheil) Walter.

Chet was a proud US Marine Corp veteran. He was stationed in Japan and served in radio communications at the end of the Korean War. After his service, he came home and resumed his 42 year-long career for the Bell Telephone Co., where he worked in many various roles throughout his time there. More recently, he volunteered at Bayhealth Hospital in Milford and the Milford Senior Center.

He prioritized staying active throughout his lifetime: whether fly-fishing and raising a beautiful garden in his younger years, or more recently by singing and dancing to his favorite music and his thrice weekly workouts at Planet Fitness in Milford. However, he still was known to enjoy his favorite snack, Sweetzels Spiced Wafers. He loved watching birds at his bird feeders and playing board games with his family. He was known by many to have a cheerful and bright personality, possessing a great sense of humor. Above all else, he was an outstanding father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Dorothy Marie (Richards) Walter; his brother, Earl Walter; his sister, Anna Walter; and his granddaughter, Katrina Krumrie.

He will be greatly missed by his daughters, Victoria “Vicky” Shockley and husband, Wayne, of Jackson, MO, and Lisa Marie Walter of Salt Lake City, UT; his brother, Ed Walter, of Lansdale, PA; his grandchildren, Ashley Donnelly, Shannon Donnelly, Trista Donnelly, and Cori Johnson; and his great grandchildren, Orion and Jocelyn.

Services and interment are private. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent in Chet’s honor to The Wounded Warrior Project: https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate. Arrangements are in the care of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Milford, Delaware. Online condolences may be sent to the family at: https://www.shortfuneralservicesandcremation.com/.
