Claudia J. Stayton

CLAYTON – Claudia J. Stayton passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Kent General Hospital. Claudia was born in Milford, daughter of the late William L., Sr., and Olga (Gillespie) Stayton. She resided in Milford until moving to Wilmington at age 9 and attended John Dickinson High School. Claudia worked 30 years at General Motors in Newark and was a member of the UAW until her retirement in 2005. She proudly built and owned her first home in 1994 and built her current home in Clayton in 2010. After retiring Claudia focused on spending time with family and friends, especially her great nieces whom she loved dearly. Claudia loved cars and owned several Camaros, a Triumph, a motorcycle, and numerous trucks in her lifetime. Claudia loved animals and never went without at least one cat in her home. She leaves behind her beloved feline ‘boys’, Big and Chase, whom she dearly cherished and spoiled. Claudia was devoted to her parents until they departed this life and was a wonderful daughter, sister, and aunt to many nieces. She is survived by her brother, William Stayton, Jr., (Deborah); two nieces, Kristin Stayton Gibbons (Christopher), Kimberly Elise Gibbons (Jeff); five great nieces, Alexa E. Gibbons, Jenna K. Gibbons, Maya A. Gibbons, Chloe E. Gibbons and Sydney E. Gibbons; as well as a host of cousins and extended family. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Homes, 119 NW Front Street, Milford, DE. A time of visitation for family and friends will begin at 10:30am. Burial will follow at Henlopen Memorial Park.
