Darlene T. Vreeland, a beloved lifetime resident of Delaware, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE, where she was surrounded by the love and warmth of her family. Born on August 7, 1944, in Georgetown, DE, Darlene was known for her contagious laughter and her generous spirit, which endeared her to all who knew her.
During her impressive career, Darlene dedicated 20 years to secretarial work for LD Caulk, where her professionalism and unwavering commitment made a significant impact on her colleagues. Beyond her professional achievements, she found immense joy in her hobbies and interests, particularly at the Milford Senior Center, where she enjoyed engaging in activities and the company of friends. Darlene's love for the beach was a cherished aspect of her life; for her, the beach was a place where she had many memorable moments with her family and friends.
Darlene's family was the cornerstone of her life. She is survived by her son, Shawn H. Vreeland; her daughter, Dawn Leighty and her husband Thomas; her sister, Doris T. Ball; and her former sisters-in-law Mary Lou Webb and Katherine McFadden. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Daphne Herber and her husband Phil, and Mitch Leighty, along with her precious great-grandchild, Miles Herber. Darlene will also be missed by her beloved cat, Daisy, who brought her joy and companionship.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Melvin Minus Tyndall and Sarah Lavina Carey, and her former spouse, James H. Vreeland. Darlene's warmth, laughter, and love will be profoundly missed, and her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 12:00 pm, at Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St. Milford, DE 19963. Visitation for family and friends will be from 11:00am-12:00 pm. Interment to follow at Asbury UMC Cemetery in Seaford, DE.
