Dawn Elaine (Cleaver) Ellingsworth, age 88, of Milford, Delaware, peacefully passed away on her birthday, Sunday, March 10, 2024, surrounded by her husband and two sons at Sussex Bayhealth Hospital in Milford, DE.
Dawn was born in Milford, DE, on March 10, 1936, to the late William H. and Jennie M. (Dodd) Cleaver. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Elizabeth Hall, Alice Toler, and Marian Van Es.
Dawn grew up in the Milford area and graduated from Milford High School in 1954. Shortly after, she married her high school sweetheart, Douglas W. Ellingsworth on October 16, 1954.
Dawn enjoyed bowling, crafting, and square dancing. She was a Cub Scout den mother for Troop 116 for many years. She enjoyed her many trips to St. Petersburg, FL, Lancaster, PA, and Branson, MS with family and friends. She was secretary for Calvary United Methodist Church for over 40 years where she worked with several ministers, chaired many committees, and made many friends.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas W. Ellingsworth of 70 years this October 2024; two sons, Gary (Debbie) Ellingsworth and Steve Ellingsworth; two grandsons, Matthew Ellingsworth (Nikki Spence) and Jeremy (Katelyn) Ellingsworth; and two great grandchildren, Beau Ellingsworth and Hailey Ellingsworth.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 18, 2024, at Calvary Church, 301 SE Front St. Milford, DE 19963. Visitation will be from 11:00am – 1:00pm, with the service beginning at 1:00pm. The burial will be held at Milford Community Cemetery in Milford, DE.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Calvary Church, 301 SE Front St. Milford, DE 19963.
The family would like to thank Sussex Bayhealth Hospital. Doctors Shah and Samar, and all the nurses on the 5th floor for their amazing help. The family has also asked for everyone to dress casually.
