Deborah Ann (Debbie) Barrett

Deborah Ann Barrett (Debbie), a long-time resident of Millsboro, Delaware passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 after a year-long struggle with lung cancer. She was born December 27, 1954 to the late Ernest and Anna (Pasquale) Kardos in Salem County, New Jersey. Debbie grew up in Newport, Delaware.

Debbie graduated from Conrad High School and attended Delaware Technical Community College for Accounting. She worked as an administrative assistant in New Castle County for many years but found home in Millsboro in the 1990s where she worked for the Salvation Army and concluded her career and retired in 2021 from A.P. Croll & Son. Debbie was well known for her green thumb and her love for flowers and plants. She was truly "at home" on a boat or on the beach with a fishing pole in her hand... often heard calling "here fishy fishy fishy". From the Indian River Bay to Mexico and Costa Rica, many fish feared her call, however she managed to hook some big ones in over the years. Debbie's true passion was her love of family and her friends. She adored her loving husband Rex for over 30 years and was always beaming with pride for her son (Neil) and daughter-in-law (Adele). There was always a twinkle in her eye when she talked about her cherished grandchildren who were fortunate to have learned the importance of hugs and saying "I love you", and yes, fishing, crabbing, crafting, and discovery of the bay.

Debbie is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Rex Barrett of Millsboro, DE; son, Neil Chandler; daughter-in-law, Adele; and grandchildren, Addison and Mason Chandler all of Avondale, PA; cousin, Louis Pasquale of Penns Grove, NJ; and her niece, Tracy Broomell of Maryland. She was preceded in death by her brother, Ernest (Buster) Kardos and her parents, Ernest and Anna Kardos.

She will be missed by family, friends, and neighbors.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton, DE on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 1:00 pm. and time of visitation will be held from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm for friends and family.
