Doris Jane Reed

Doris Jane Reed, 89, of Harrington, passed away peacefully at Harrison Senior Living in Georgetown on Saturday, October 31, 2020. Mrs. Reed was born in Philadelphia, PA, on December 26, 1930 to the late Purnell Carlton and Nina (Waller) Dykes. She lived most of her life in Salisbury, Maryland and was in the last graduating class from Wicomico High School when it only had 11 grades. Doris worked for many years for T.L. Ruark. She also drove a school bus and worked for Food Lion. Doris was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Salisbury. Doris loved stock car races, Oriole baseball, which usually resulted in her fussing at the pitcher; if the pitcher was giving away too many runs or wasn’t throwing the right pitches. She also enjoyed gardening, family gatherings, and dinners, especially if there was apple pie for dessert. Doris was an excellent cook and made the best macaroni and cheese and slick dumplings around. She was a very hard worker and a very kind person who had an infectious laugh. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 28 years, Richard B. Parker; her second husband of 30 years, John C. Reed; and her siblings and their spouses, Robert and Thelma Dykes, Raymond and Jean Dykes, and Mary and Anthony Poso. She is survived by her son and his wife, Charles A. and Sharon Parker of Harrington, De; nieces, Cynthia P. Humphrey and husband John, Linda D. Windsor and husband Mark; nephews, Joseph C. Dykes and wife Karen, David “Buddy” Dykes and wife Marcia, Donald A. Poso and wife Raye Anne, and Steven Scott Dykes and wife Shelly. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Springhill Memory Gardens Cemetery, 27260 Ocean Gateway, Hebron, Maryland. A visitation will begin at 11:00 am in the cemetery chapel.
