Edward J. Carpenter, Jr.

Edward J. Carpenter, Jr., 87, of Wilmington passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at Wilmington Hospital in Wilmington, DE. Edward was born in Chester, PA, the son of the late Edward J. Carpenter, Sr. and Margaret (Gallagher) Carpenter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a Postal Clerk and worked at the Airmail Facility at Philadelphia Airport, retiring in 1988. Edward enjoyed fishing and the NASCAR Races. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (Mower) Carpenter. He is survived by his children, Donna White (John) of Newark, DE, Shirley Riberio (Jeffrey) of Wilmington and Edward Carpenter, III (Michelle) of Camden and John Carpenter (Denise) of Upland, PA; 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, DE, where friends may call after 12:00 noon. Interment will be in Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton. Those attending must wear a mask and adhere to social distancing and gathering protocols.
