HOUSTON – Edward ‘Red Hawk’ Leon Kenton, Sr., age 74, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, May 1, 2021. He attended Caesar Rodney High School and excelled in woodworking, a passion he would later in life prove to be exceptional in. Drafted into the US Army in 1967 he was sent to Vietnam right after boot camp. After returning home to Delaware, he and his wife and son settled in Houston. He worked in construction for quite a while and then as maintenance manager for Milford Crossings. Eddie’s hobby of arrowhead hunting and Indian Artifacts led him to discover his Cherokee roots which subsequently led him to become Chief Red Hawk as in true American Indian culture. He had a gift for the ability of storytelling and holding the interest of any audience. He was also a member of American Legion Post 7 in Harrington, VFW Post 6483 in Milford, and Moose Lodge 534 in Harrington. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Paul E. and Myrtle (Wilkins) Kenton; companion, Joan Simpson; and sister, Audrey Dale. He is survived by his son, Edward Kenton Jr., of Houston; siblings, Paul E. Kenton (Jane) of Ft. Myers, FL, Bob Kenton Sr., of Easton, MD, Doris King of Magnolia, Jean Hall of Dover, and Janet Martin (Louis) of Smyrna; his devoted friends, Joe and Judith Shuster; and his devoted dog, Bo.
