Elaine S. Rifenburg

Elaine S. Rifenburg, 73, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, May 31, 2024.

Elaine was born on February 19, 1951 in Harrington, DE. She called Delaware her home for her whole life. Elaine was an avid crocheter; her talent and skills grew quickly till everyone in the family had an afghan to be proud of. Among her many hobbies included, ceramics, crossword puzzles, needlepoint, swimming, and intently watching soap operas. She adored bears in all shapes and sizes. She will be greatly missed and remembered by those she loved by her amazing sense of humor.

Elaine is preceded in death by her parents, Palmer and Dorothy (Rifenburg) Swain; siblings, Gary Swain, Palmer Swain Jr., and Peggy Swain.

She is survived by her sister in law, Cindy L. Swain; aunt, JoAnn Hayes; nieces, Jennifer L. Swain-Webb, Erica L. Swain-Melvin, Amy L. Swain (Chucky Morton); great nieces and nephews, Brandon Swain (Cheyenne), Michael Melvin Jr., Brooke L. Webb, Robbie Melvin, Charles Douglas Morton III; and five great-great nieces and nephews.

A time of visitation will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024 from 5 to 7 pm in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home. The memorial service will begin at 7 pm at 119 NW Front St., Milford, DE. In addition to flower, the family has requested donations to Delaware Hospice in Kent County.
