Eliza J. Stokes

Eliza J. Stokes, 102, of Milford, passed away peacefully at Westminster Village in Dover on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. Eliza was born in Milford to the late Edward and Edith (Coverdale) Jones. She enjoyed crocheting and especially loved gardening with her husband, proudly growing delicious lima beans and other fresh produce. She was active in the Frederica Senior Center, and was a member of the Sunshine Club. In addition to her parents, Eliza is preceded in death by her husband, William O. Stokes, Sr.; her great-granddaughter Feather Marvel; her son-in-law, Jeff Donovan; her four sisters; and her three brothers. She is survived by her son, William O. Stokes, Jr. and wife, Beverly of Milford; her daughter, Ellen Donovan of Milford; her son, E. Martin Stokes and wife, Sue of Milford; her five grandchildren, David Stokes, Steven Stokes, Dawn Davila, Staci Marvel, and Candace Stokes; her six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Also, several “adopted” grandchildren. A time of visitation will be held on Sunday, January 10, 2021 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Berry-Short Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 11, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford, DE. Interment will follow at Milford Community Cemetery. All in attendance must wear a mask and adhere to social distancing and gathering protocols.
