MILFORD – Elizabeth Elmia (Feick) Gabel, passed away peacefully at Milford Place on Sunday, May 5, 2024.
Elizabeth was born in Hamburg, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Leroy A. and Katherine E. (Staller) Feick.
Elizabeth received her R.N. at Pottstown School of Nursing, her BSN at State University of New York (S.U.N.Y. Oneonta) and her master’s in education at University of Delaware. She was active in the A.A.U.W. (American Association of University Women). Her career started at Pottstown Memorial Hospital in Pediatrics. She then opened a home for children with disabilities in upstate New York in 1967 along with her Husband, where she was the Assistant Administrator. She then moved to Delaware where she was a pediatric nursing instructor at Delaware Technical and Community College Owen’s campus for 25 years. At which time she retired.
She enjoyed her winters in Florida and summers at their summer camp in upstate New York with her sweetheart of 70 years. She was the happiest when she was spending time with her family, close friends, playing cards, teaching all her grandkids and extended kids to play cards at her camp, she enjoyed quilting and knitting, was an avid reader and a wonderful cook. Her greatest joy/love was being with her honey Herbie and watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren complete all their various education, career’s, sporting events and hobbies.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Gabel, Jr., Daughter Kimberly E. Esham and two sisters, Beatrice Dalious and Sylvia Feick.
She is survived by three children, Greg Gabel and wife Nancy, Donald Gabel and wife Dora, Kathy Scott and husband Leon; a son-in-law Bruce J. Esham (Linda); grandchildren, Christopher Gabel (Amber), Mathew Esham (Crystal), Samantha Stafford (Matthew), Liana Gabel, and Anthony Gabel (Kristi); one sister-in-law Shirley Supplee; 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30am on Friday, June 7, 2024, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, Del 19947 where a time of visitation for family and friends will begin at 10:30am. Inurnment will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes contributions to VITAS Hospice, 30265 Commerce Drive, Suite 202, Millsboro, Del 19966.
