Eugene Harvey Rust

Eugene Harvey Rust, 66 Lincoln-Eugene Harvey Rust passed away on December 31, 2020 at Bayhealth/Sussex Campus in Milford. He had a long battle of COPD. He was born June 20, 1954 to the late William Harvey Rust and Doris VanVorst Rust. Eugene was a 1973 Milford High School graduate. He was a member of the FFA winning a chance to compete nationally in Kansas City. He was also a member of the International Order of Redman. After leaving high school, he worked for Burton VanVorst Farms and Taylor Electric before returning to work in maintenance with the Milford School District for 30 years retiring in 2012. Eugene worked in his yard and garden until he could no longer do so as he truly enjoyed growing his own vegetables and spending time on his tractor. He also enjoyed fishing with friends. He was always finding ways to simplify any job. Once he retired, he was elected to the Milford School Board and served from 2012 to 2017. Eugene was a life member of the Carlisle Fire Company and spent countless hours at the firehouse. Earlier in his career, he rode ambulance for the fire company, served as Chief Engineer and had the most alarms presented to him March 1994. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Edna Rust, his son, Christopher of Felton (Marianne), and daughter, Selean of Ellendale (Kenny), his brother, Steve of Milford (Cindy), sister, Cora of Orr, MN (David) and stepmother, Jeannie Rust; stepsons, Outten Torbert of Dover (Shelly) and Tim Torbert of Harrington, (Fiancé’, Katie). Grandchildren include Eliah, Einah, Dustin, Skylar, Kenny, Jr., Chase, Mason, Mary, Trevor and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at the Carlisle Fire Hall, 615 NW Front St., Milford. The service will begin at 1:00 pm. Friends and family wishing to attend are reminded that all COVID-19 protocols will be followed and all attendees must wear a mask and social distance at all times. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to: Carlisle Fire Company, P.O. Box 131, Milford, DE 19963.
