Francis "Jigger" W. Morris, Jr.

Francis W. “Jigger” Morris, Jr., passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 25, 2024 with his family by his side.

Jigger was born on June 27, 1945, and raised in Felton, son of the late Francis Willard  “Bib” and Frances (Brittingham) Morris.

A lifelong Delaware resident, Jigger grew up in Felton, graduating from Felton High School in 1963. Upon graduation he entered the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1971. He then worked for Playtex, Inc. for 23 years before finishing his career as a private contractor with DelDot in their IT Department.

Although an only child, Jigger shared a close relationship with his cousin Don, and viewed him as a brother. The two shared a love of hotrods and Jigger often had a story to tell about his about his beloved 55 Chevy. In his younger days, he often enjoyed attending car shows with his buddies. Another thing he enjoyed was his camping trips with his wife Jo Ann and their dogs.

While not necessarily one to stand out in a crowd, Jigger was someone who could strike up a conversation with almost anyone. There was never an unkind word said about him as most that knew him, liked him. Jigger was quick with a joke or smart comment, but always had good intentions behind his playfulness. Often one who tried to pretend to be gruff, he was truly a softy to those he cared about and would help out in any way he could. For this he will be greatly missed.

Jigger is preceded in death by his parents, Bib and Frances Morris.

A beloved husband and cherished father, Jigger leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Jo Ann (Green) Morris; his two daughters, Monica “Crickett” Morris, and Renee Callahan (Chris); his grandchildren, Declan and Brogan Callahan, special cousins, Don Brittingham (Bette) and Kay Stubbs (Charles), and his four legged companions, JoJo and Miss Cuddles.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the Berry-Short Funeral Home in Felton, DE. A visitation for family and friends will be from 12:00pm to 1:00pm with a service following. Interment will follow the service at Barratt’s Chapel Cemetery.
