Francis L. Jenkins, of Waldorf, Maryland, passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, due to complications associated with pneumonia. He was born February 2, 1929, in Washington D.C., the son of the late George Jenkins and Lizetta (Knott) Jenkins. He was a 1947 graduate of Eastern High School in Washington D.C. He married Jane Ellen Neilsen on May 2, 1953, in Washington, D.C. Francis and his family lived in Forest Heights, Clinton, and Brandywine, ultimately retiring to Waldorf, MD. He served in the Army during the Korean War and later became a firefighter in the District of Columbia. He went on to become a real estate broker for many years. Francis was extremely proud of his roles and activities he played in local organizations and events. During his lifetime he served as Cubmaster for his local Cub Scout troop, and organized 4th of July fireworks and Easter Egg hunt celebrations held in Louise F. Cosca Regional Park in the early to mid-70’s. He was assisted in these endeavors by his family and park employees. Due to his previous firefighter experience, Francis was the person who ignited the pyrotechnic displays. Due to the work involved with launching the fireworks he was never able to view the spectacle that brought joy to so many, they were beautiful. He is survived by his wife Jane; two sons, Daniel L. Jenkins of Milford, DE, and Matthew N. (and Pamela) Jenkins also of Milford, DE; two grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of funeral services, and to honor Francis’ wishes, we ask that all who want to participate to send memorial contributions to their local Hospice Center or Humane Society.
