George Robert (Bob) Bossert went home to the Lord peacefully on Monday morning September 18, 2023, with his wife of 68 years, Barbara by his side.
A former resident of Broadkill Beach and Wilmington, Bob was a patriotic US Navy veteran. He was a life member of Five Points Fire Company, holding several positions in fireline and administrative offices, and retired from Hercules, Inc. after over 40 years. He was a member of the Richardson Park Sportsmen’s Club, a baseball coach for Five Points Little League, a hospice volunteer, and church member. He had many interests: hunting, fishing, writing poetry, winemaking, sewing, leatherwork, gardening, and woodworking, among others. He loved eating his wife’s wonderful desserts.
Bob loved Broadkill Beach, where he spent much of his life playing, swimming, and fishing. He wrote an article published in Beach Life magazine (Sept. 2018) titled, “Boys of Broadkill”, where he reminisced about the summer of 1942 in Broadkill and his relationship with the soldiers stationed there during WWII. Through the years, the family has grown to 10 cottages, numbering nearly 100 relatives.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marion (Linthicum) Bossert; brother, Harry Edward (Bud); daughter, Kimberly Ann; and daughter-in-law, Cheryl (Chick).
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons, Vinton Charles (Ellie) and Joel Robert (Rachel); grandsons, Blake (Jill) Bossert and Daniel (Laura) Bossert; granddaughters, Ashley (Dayne) Eisele, Kimberly (Shawn) Bossert, and Kelly Bossert; and great grandchildren, Danika Eisele, Raines Eisele, Sadie Bossert, Jane Bossert, Isabella Bossert, Liliana Bossert, Kinsley Boone, Maverick Eisele, Karsen Boone, Dorothy Butcher, and Wyatt Bossert; and also his loving sisters-in-law, cousins, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 11:00am at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, DE 19968. A time of visitation will begin at 10:00am.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to Milton Fire Company Ambulance Service, where Bob was on a first name basis with many EMT’s there due to their frequent visits to Broadkill Beach to help him get back on his feet after falling.
