Gene R. Savage

Gene R. Savage, 92, of Ocean Pines, MD passed away with family by his side on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at Lofland Park Center. Gene was the son of the late Arthur Savage and Margaret Rogers Savage. He graduated from Georgetown High School in 1946 and was later employed by the Sussex County Division of the State Highway Department. His employment was interrupted by a call to active duty in the US Army. A sergeant with the 887th Field Artillery Battalion in 1951 and 1952, Mr. Savage was chief of sections and Troop Information Education Instructor. After military service, Mr. Savage attended the University of Delaware. He was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in 1958 and a Master’s Degree in 1972. In 1956, prior to receiving his Bachelor’s Degree, he joined the faculty of Newark Junior High School. During his educational career he was a teacher, an administrator, and a counselor for the Newark school system until he retired in 1983. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Ann West Byram. He is survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A graveside service will be held at Cokesbury Cemetery on Monday, August 16, 2021 at 11 am. The cemetery is located at 14775 Seashore Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947. Arrangements in the care of Short Funeral Services, Georgetown. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gene’s memory may be made to: Grace UM Church, 7 S. King St., Georgetown, DE 19947.
