Gerald C. Cottrell

April 20, 1932 — September 3, 2022

Gerald Cottrell, 90 years old, was born in Elbridge N.Y. April 20, 1932. He passed away while with his loving family on September 3, 2022.

Gerald Cottrell lived a life filled with potential and opportunity, all of which he created. When he could no longer afford college at the age of 19, he enlisted in the Army with the goal serving for four years to receive funds to finish college. He served for 20 years obtaining the final rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He served in Korea and led an artillery battalion in Vietnam.

Upon retirement from the Army, he achieved his goal and earned his bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning from St. Anselm’s College. He then worked for the State of N.H. as the assistant executive for urban development for 9 years. Shifting gears, he attended hairdressing school and joined his wife in her career for 8 years. Finally, he was the manager of the town of Hookset N.H. for 6 years. In 1998, he retired and moved to Delaware.

As distinguished as Gerald’s career was, more so was his love and care for his family. He never failed to hug his wife or children, always reminding them that he loved them. Married for 62 years, he was a loving and faithful husband to his wife, Heike. Vacations, fun, and adventure were a part of family life. His sense of humor kept everyone laughing, even in the most difficult times. The memories he created will last more than a lifetime.

He is survived by his daughter, Dorrice Burns (Christopher Burns), son, Merchon Cottrell (Jane Cottrell), and grandchildren, Cameron Burns, Meaghan Cottrell, and Nathan Cottrell.
