Gwendolyn Alderman

May 13, 1946 — April 11, 2023

GEORGETOWN – Gwendolyn Ruth Alderman passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at TidalHealth Nanticoke in Seaford, surrounded by family.

Gwen was born in Winsted, Connecticut, daughter of the late Harvey and Florence (Bennett) Nott. In addition to her parents, Gwen is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur J. Alderman; and three siblings, I. Everett Nott, Harvey F. Nott, and Joanne Decker.

Gwen and her husband Art settled in Kent, Connecticut, purchasing their first home in the early 1970s. Together they raised two sons and were a central part of the community. Gwen worked at the bursar’s office at South Kent School, and provided eldercare, administrative support and housekeeping for several local families. Her gift of caregiving extended to her son’s friends and classmates from SKS, as she provided a safe haven for those who were in need of motherly guidance. Gwen was the woman you went to when you needed advice or a very honest opinion.

Gwen and Art lived in Dover Plains, New York for a short time before retiring to Georgetown, Delaware in 1995. Gwen continued her passion for caregiving as a CNA, helping many families in need of support. Gwen was a proud member of the Ellendale United Methodist Church, where she participated in Sunday school and bible study. Gwen was an avid reader and was never without her Kindle e-reader.

Gwen is survived by two sons, Richard F. Alderman (Kara) and John D. Alderman (Catherine); four grandchildren, Athena Alderman, Jacob, Devon, and Alexander Alderman; a sister, Noreen Bebault; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Memorial services are pending at this time.
