Harvey Griffith Hastings

Harvey Griffith Hastings, 82, of Milford, passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Bayhealth Sussex Campus. He was born on December 5, 1939, to the late Lester George, Sr. and Nora Elizabeth (Webb) Hastings in Seaford, Del. Harvey was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, and in his travels visited 7 different seas and the equator. He served his country during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. In high school, Harvey was named “Most Athletic”. His love of sports was evident in the many ways he served his community. He was a Milford Little League coach for fifteen years, and was the president of the Milford Parks and Rec Basketball League for several years. He was part of the Milford Businessmen Bowling League, and enjoyed a good round of golf. He was at home on any field! He also volunteered at the Delaware Veterans Home. In 1999, Harvey gave his heart to the Lord. He loved attending gospel concerts, and he even preached a couple of sermons. Harvey is preceded in death by his brother, Lester Hastings, Jr.; his sister, Thelma Jefferson; and grandsons, Brandon Hastings and Justin Redlich. He is survived by his loving wife, Louise (Smith) Hastings; his children, Sherry Redlich (Mark), Steve Hastings (Dawn), and Shawn Marie; his siblings, Shirley Mobley, Gail Postle, and James Webb; 11 grandchildren, Jeremy, Brianna, Jordan, Seth, Jedidiah, Desi, Collin, Morgan, Chance, Samantha, and Emylee; and his great grandchild, Karmelah. Funeral services will be held of Monday, January 31, 2022 at 12 noon at Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St. Milford, Del. 19963. A time of visitation will begin at 10:30. Interment will be held at Milford Community Cemetery. As required by revised mandates during the pandemic, masks will be required for the health and safety of the family and those in attendance.
