Hazel Wilhelm Longfellow

March 12, 1934 — July 5, 2023

MILFORD – Hazel Wilhelm Longfellow, passed away on July 5, 2023 at home, with her daughters and beloved dog, Chewy, by her side.


Hazel was born March 12, 1934 in Denton, Maryland to the late Merle and Florence Wilhelm.


She was certified by Del Tech Community College in the Food Service Training program in 1972. She was a home worker for many years, caring for her family. She also worked as a caregiver for the elderly and earned her GED in her sixties.


She married Floyd Longfellow, Sr., on July 4, 1953 and together they had five children. Hazel enjoyed spending time with her family, putting together puzzles, also doing puzzles on her tablet, and playing cards. She enjoyed making her strawberry punch for gatherings and everyone enjoyed her homemade lasagna. She loved her dog Chewy and took him on walks as much as she could and was a wonderful companion for over 12 years.


In addition to her parents, Hazel is preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Sue Longfellow; brothers, Merle Wilhelm, Jr., Frank Wilhelm, William Wilhelm, and Charles Wilhelm; sisters, Louise Kulhanek, Dolly Meredith, and Anna Pinder.


Hazel is survived by a son, Floyd Longfellow, Jr., of Florida; daughters, Theresa Short and Mary Quigley, of Milford, and Joyce Franks of Felton; eight grandchildren, Harry Longfellow and Richard Longfellow of Nashville, TN, Roger Franks, Jr., of Oak Ridge, TN, Joshua Franks of Pleasanton, CA, Amanda Jobson of Salt Lake City, UT, Andrew Short, Susan Quigley and Karen Quigley all of Milford; a great granddaughter, Calli Franks of Knoxville, TN; sisters, Mary Longfellow, Barbara Hutson and Florence Sewell; and brother, James Wilhelm; along with many nieces and nephews.


Hazel was dedicated and baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and firmly believed in the resurrection to life on earth in a paradise.


Services will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 2:00pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 509 Airport Road, Milford, DE 19963. The service will be officiated by Bill Rowan of Milford.


A livestream via Zoom will be available using meeting ID 952 7808 0891 and PIN m2020.
