Herman J. Wagner, Jr.

Felton--Herman Jennings Wagner, Jr., 89, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2022. He was born April 30, 1933, in Elizabeth NJ, the only child of Herman Wagner, Sr and Mildred Gano Wagner. He leaves behind two sons, George (Melanie) Wagner of Yardville, NJ and Kurt (Jill) Wagner of Lakeland, TN as well as 6 grandchildren. Abigail Wagner (Adam), Christine Maul, Elizabeth, Emma, Mary Claire and Julia Wagner. After graduating Thomas Jefferson High School, he joined the United States Air Force. He honorably served his country for over 23 years. He is a Vietnam War veteran. He proudly served many years in foreign countries. He spent time in Phan Rang, Vietnam, he was also stationed in Rafstargate, England, Hahn AFB, Germany, Mt. Home AFB in Idaho and in Dover AFB, Delaware. Following his distinguished military career, he went on the work at the Canteen Corporation for several years before retiring. Herman’s true passion was helping others. He was a life-long firefighter and EMT. He volunteered for the De Cou Hose Company in Hamilton, NJ. He then continued to serve for over 40 years at the Felton Community Fire Company in Felton, DE. Among his numerous awards, he was named Fire Fighter of the Year in 1996 and was inducted into the Delaware Fire Service Firefighters Hall of Fame in 2007. He was the oldest living member of the Felton Community Fire Company. Along with his fire service, Herman was also a member of the Delaware State Fire Police, the Dover Police Citizen’s Academy as well as the Kent County Fire Police. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 1:00pm at the Berry-Short Funeral Home, 217 Main Street, Felton, DE. A time of Visitation will begin at 11:00am to 1:00pm. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Camden, DE. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Felton Community Fire Company, P.O.
