Obituary for James David Davis
James David Davis, 84, of Georgetown, DE, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024, at the Delaware Hospice Center.
He was born in Georgetown, DE on March 3, 1940, to his parents Arthur Pierce and Anna Mae (Rash) Davis.
James ranked Sergeant in the National Guard and trained in Fort Knox, KY. He farmed the home farm. He was employed by Arrow Safety Device Co. for 7 years and Melvin L. Joseph Construction Company for 40 years. James enjoyed racing and raced a 1938 Ford in the Limited Sportsman Class at the Georgetown Speedway from 1961 to 1963, where he was track champion in 1963. He enjoyed horseback riding and taking a stroll in his horse and buggy and he also loved his trips to Lancaster, PA. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy King; brothers, Norman Davis, Paul Davis, Johnny Davis and Arthur Davis, Jr.
James is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Ruth Ellen (Morris) Davis; children, Lori Lewis (Shawn), Mark Davis (Leona); grandchildren, Casey Lewis (Emily), Mark James Davis, Jr.; great grandchildren, Owen Lewis, Cali Lewis, and Wrenley Lewis; brothers, William Thomas Davis (Carol) and Robert Davis (Grace).
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday, November 24, 2024, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, DE, where a time of visitation for family and friends will begin at 12:00pm. Burial will be in Asbury United Methodist Cemetery, Georgetown, DE.
In lieu of flowers the family welcomes memorial contributions to: Asbury United Methodist Cemetery, 14873 Baker Mill Road, Seaford, DE 19973 or Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
