James Noah "Jamie" Rogers

GEORGETOWN – Our protector and anchor lost his battle with prostate cancer. He fought a long, hard battle since 2015 but he was tired. He passed away peacefully in the early hours of Tuesday October 25th.

He was born on Tuesday June 29, 1965 in Milford Memorial Hospital. Jamie is survived by his wife Teresa McGee Rogers, son Jesse James Rogers and his bonus son Benjamin Reese McDorman. His mother Lorraine Tidwell Rogers, sister Robin and her husband Gary Hall, brother Mike Rogers. His mother in law Hazel Smith and her husband William Smith. Many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends he considered family. He was predeceased by his father, Wilbert Rogers, brother W.N., sister Polly, a half brother, Billy Rogers; and his father in law Reese McGee.

Jamie worked for Delmarva Power (currently Exelon) for 32 years as a Substation Technician Senior Tech until his recent retirement. He loved his job and his work family. Jamie was the face of the Substation Department. He was serious about working safely but would often tease his coworkers in his ornery way. I’m sure they will truly miss his shenanigans.

Jamie was an excellent athlete excelling in football, wrestling and track. He was an incredible running back and full back, running to the goal line many times. I’ve heard the stories of how you didn’t want to get hit or tackled by Jamie because it was really going to hurt. He represented Sussex Central High School proudly in 1983 at the Blue/Gold football game. He had lightening speed, ran a 4.4 and holds a school record for low hurdles. He was proud of Ben’s most recent accomplishments, moving to California and working at SpaceX. He loved racing of any kind. His most current enjoyment came from watching his son Jesse race his go kart. They enjoyed working on the kart together; sometimes they would have a disagreement but it would be quickly resolved. It brought him great joy to watch Jesse race and especially win. He was at Jesse’s last race the Saturday before his death. Jesse won the race that night and he was so proud. Many hugs and tears in the winner circle. Jamie you have taken your last lap and received the checkered flag.

Keep watching over and protecting us as you did until your final moments. Fly high without pain with your friends and family. Until we meet again my love.

Attire for services will be casual as Jamie hated dressing up. Wear your favorite racing shirt, Sussex Central apparel or your favorite football jersey.

A funeral service will be held at 4pm on Sunday, November 6, 2022 in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, De 19947. A time of visitation for family and friends will begin at 2:00pm. A fellowship meal will immediately follow the service at The Marvel Museum, South Bedford Street, Georgetown, De.
