John Edward Smith

John Edward Smith, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. He was born on February 26, 1935 in Pursglove, West Virginia to Stephen and Emma Smith. John was a proud Air Force Veteran, having served in the Korean War, and a recipient of a purple heart. He worked for Beamont Glass Company and was a retiree of 20 years for the United Mine Workers of America in Morgantown, West Virginia. He was a proud member of the Lincoln United Methodist Church, a lay speaker, and a regular member of the Milford Senior Center. John loved life, loved to tell stories and loved his dog, Buster. John was a loving husband to wife, Dorthelene V. “Dottie” Smith who preceded him in death in 2008. John is survived by his 3 children, 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and a very special and cherished companion, Ruth Mills. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s names follow. Son, Michael Edward Smith and cherished companion, Yvonne, of Milton; grandchildren; Michael Jacob Smith, Debbie Smith, and Hannah Smith, all of San Antonio, Texas; and Miranda Michelle Smith and partner, Jerry of Berlin, MD; great-grandchildren, A.J., Joey and Savannah Mae. Daughter, Julie and husband, Michael Roupe of Morgantown, West Virginia; grandchildren, Erica Lynn and John Michael; and great-grandchildren, Johnna and Nathan. Daughter, Karen and husband, Louis Kapcsos, Jr., retired Air Force at DAFB, of Pensacola, Florida; grandchildren, Christopher Michels and wife, Torey of San Diego, CA; Christopher is currently serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. and John and wife, Kim Michels, residing in Harrington; and great-granddaughter, Belle.
