John Phillip Shockley

John Phillip Shockley, 77, of Milford, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Bayhealth Sussex Campus.

John was born on June 30, 1945 in Milford to the late Harold Shockley and Alice (Smoot) Black.

John served his country proudly in the US Navy in Vietnam and in the Army National Guard during Operation Desert Storm, totaling 42 years of dedicated service. He was known in his later years as the “Neighborhood Grandpa”. Above all else, his love for his family, especially his grandchildren, was evident.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Brandi Shockley; and his brothers, Harold Shockley, Richard Shockley, and H. Davis Shockley.

John will be greatly missed by his wife of 51 years, Debbie Shockley; his granddaughters, Mikayla Shockley (Josh) and Hannah Coleman (Tristan); and his great grandsons, Lincoln and Maverick.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 24, 2023 at 11:00 at the Milford Church of the Nazarene, 11 Salevan Place, Milford, DE 19963. Interment will take place on Friday, March 10, 2023 at 2:00 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, DE. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent to the Milford Church of the Nazarene.
