John Wayne Starr, Loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather
John Wayne Starr, 69, of Milton, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2022 at his home.
John was born March 11, 1953 in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. Son of the late John T. and May Starr. John was a proud member of the Milton community since his family moved to Milton when he was about three years old. John grew up attending St. Edmond Catholic School in Rehoboth Beach and graduated from Cape Henlopen High School, Class of 1971.
John was a hard-working business owner in Milton. He started his career working at Shockley & Reed grocery store while still in high school, later becoming the owner for many years to follow. He then went on to open Three Starr Deli in Harbeson. John spent the last 20 years of his career as a Federal Postal Employee retiring in 2017, from the Milton Post Office. He loved his community and the people with whom he worked.
John was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a proud grandfather and loved spending time with his two granddaughters. On his time off, he also enjoyed working in his woodworking shop and made beautiful items for family and friends that will be treasured for many years to come. John also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all things outdoors. He especially enjoyed the many hunting trips he took with his friends. John was a member and president of the Milton JayCees. He was also a devoted Member of the Catholic Church. John’s life was full of love for his family and friends and will be remembered always.
John is survived by his wife of 49 years, Beverly (Johnson) Starr, his daughter, Nicole (Starr) Levy, wife of Michael Levy, and two granddaughters, Ella and Lily Levy, who he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his brother, Frederick M. Starr.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 11, 2022 AT 1:00 PM, at Saint Michael The Archangel Catholic Church, 202 Edward Street, Georgetown, DE. A viewing will be held beginning at 11:00 AM until the start of service. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery on Union Street in Milton, DE.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of John W. Starr may be directed to support Pancreatic Cancer Research at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center.
