John Wesley Rutherford, 88

GEORGETOWN – John Wesley Rutherford passed away peacefully on March 16, 2024, at Tidal Health in Salisbury, MD.

John was born July 5, 1935, in Bristol, VA to parents Thomas and Margaret (Sheffield) Rutherford.

John served in the United States Airforce from 1954 to 1958, being a staff SGT. John was also a member of the VFW, Lions Clubs and American Legion. Outside of his career in sales, John loved to watch horse racing and Nascar, dirt track racing, playing cards with friends, and gardening. He also loved watching his grandchildren play sports over the years.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers, Fain, Charles, Gene and Mike; and a granddaughter, Amanda.

John is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joyce Rutherford; his children, Sherry Burbidge (Mark), Cindy Givens (Ed), and John W. Rutherford, II (Jamie); his grandchildren, Brandy Short, Wesley Givens, Ryan Givens, Rachel Short, Samantha Rutherford, Nolan Rutherford, and Jack Rutherford; his great-grandchildren, Finn, Laureline, Ethan, Emmett; his siblings, Louise Winebarger, Carol Edwards, and David Rutherford; and his sisters-in-law, Frances Rutherford, and Linda Yates.

Services will be private. Arrangements in the care of Short Funeral Services, Georgetown, DE.
