Joseph H. Griffith, 95, of Felton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Joseph was born in Harrington, DE, on May 9, 1928, to the late Charles and Ethel (Ward) Griffith. A true Delaware native, Joseph was a lifetime member of the Felton Fire Company. He enjoyed NASCAR and cheering on his three favorite drivers: Bobby Allison, Davey Allison, and Martin Truex Jr. He always supported the Cowboys while watching football. Joseph was a proud army veteran and loved his country deeply. He worked as a truck driver all his life, finally giving up what he loved doing, driving the 18 wheelers at the age of 83. Throughout his life he drove for Pizzadeli Trucking, AJ Williams, Sony, Joe Connelly & Perry Butler. He lived his life driving the open road to provide for his family that he loved.
In addition to his parents, Joseph is preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Ollie E. (Wilson) Griffith; children, Rita Griffith, and Joseph Griffith Jr.; sister, Shirley Hurd; and furry companion, Jo Jo.
He will be greatly missed by his children, Jackie Brown, Melody Griffith, Debbie Phillips (Bill), Bobby Griffith (Beth), and Teresa Griffith (Stanley Potter); sister, Thelma Moore; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and a niece and nephew.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home in Felton, DE. A time of visitation will take place from 10:00 am to 12:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Joseph Griffith’s honor to the Felton Fire Company.
