Joseph M. Somers

Joseph Michael Somers ‘Flyman’ was born on August 30, 1944 in Washington D.C and left this heavenly earth on Friday, July 2, 2021. He was the son of the late Joseph and Sarah (Bracey) Somers and was raised in Camp Springs, MD. Mike as he was known to his friends and family retired from the Defense Mapping Agency as a cartographer. Over the years Mike collected house fly memorabilia earning him the nickname, Flyman. Mike enjoyed playing golf, watching NASCAR, the Redskins, and an occasional Vodka and Tonic. Mike really loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and his fur baby Destiny Marie. He is survived by his loving wife, Kimberley Bushey Somers of Rehoboth Beach; his daughter, Heather Blizzard of Rehoboth Beach; grandchildren, Riley and Drake Worrall of Rehoboth Beach; sister-in-law, Dawn Bushey of Lewes; brother-in-law, James Fries and Lisa of Middletown; brother-in-law, Jeffrey Fries and Wendy of Unionville, PA; nephew, James Alwine and Anita of Palmyra, PA; nephew, Jeffrey Alwine and Michelle of Manassas, VA; as well as numerous special cousins. Mike is predeceased by his sister-in-law, June Bushey Alwine of the Pearly Gates. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 12 noon in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, DE 19968, where friends may call after 11 am. interment will be private at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suitland, MD.
