Lee Fernald

Mary Lee Fernald, 94, of Milford, passed away at home, surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. Mary Lee, who preferred to be called Lee, was born on November 2, 1930 in Salisbury, Maryland to the late Charles Lee, and Eunice (Moore) Kelley.

Loving the beaches and coastlines, Lee spent her life close to Delaware and even closer to her family. Lee was once very involved with Avenue United Methodist church where she participated in the choir, fellowshipped in the lady’s club, taught Sunday school and was the original organizer of the Clothesline Art Exhibit. The nature surrounding the coast inspired Lee’s artistic talents of painting and creating art. By those who knew her, Lee was known for her assertive personality and love of interior design. She owned and operated Interiors by Lee in Milford, worked as a decorator for JC Penney in Dover, and with Interiors by Kim in Ocean View. Above all, Lee loved her family and the companionship of her precious dogs. She was a caring mother and a devoted grandmother. The love she had for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was apparent to all.

Lee will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 65 years; Geoffrey P. Fernald, her daughter, Gwenn Benn (Geoffrey T.); grandchildren, Kristen Adams, Keith Adams (Sharea), Brynn Adams, Danielle Shanley (Kirby), Devin Benn; and nine great grandchildren who she loved deeply.

A funeral service to remember and celebrate the life of Mary Lee Fernald will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home at 119 NW Front Street, Milford, DE. A time of visitation will take place from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon the same day. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, DE.
