Linda E. Short, age 68, of Milford, DE, passed away on December 30, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family. Born on September 19, 1956, to Nelson E. Ellis and Virginia Short, Linda's life was characterized by her unwavering kindness and the abundant love she shared with everyone she knew.
Linda was a beacon of caring and commitment not just to her family but also to her community. Her professional life was marked by a deep sense of responsibility and excellence that earned her respect and admiration from colleagues and friends. She dedicated 32 years of her life to the State of Delaware, where she served with distinction as an Executive Assistant.
She contributed significantly to local organizations, consistently putting others before herself. Linda was an active and passionate member of the Houston Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary, where she held the esteemed role of President. Linda's spirit of service shone brightly in her involvement with the Milford Band Boosters and the Jay Cee Women, serving as President for the Boosters, where her leadership and dedication were instrumental in their successes.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents and her dear siblings Carol Ann Dill and Donald E. Ellis.
Linda's legacy is carried on by her devoted husband, John Wayne Short, and her loving family. She was a cherished mother to Robert L. Herron (Kathy), Andrea L. Deputy (Clifton), Lisa M. Foraker (Jeff), and Susan R. Walters; she was stepmother to John J. Watson (Heather) and Charles E. Short (Karen). Her siblings mourn her loss, David N. Ellis (Lynn), Charlene Anderson (Stephen), and her brother-in-law Walter Dill (Claire Lea). She was a doting grandmother to Savannah Ross (Brady), Taylor Ross (Jessica), Michael Deputy (Courtney), Andrew Semans (Emma), Victoria Walters, Autumn Peffley, Stacey Deputy, Emily Semans, Logan Walters, Johnathan Walters; and an adoring great-grandmother to Luca Punderson, Mason Messick, Skylar Deputy, and Aria Semans; her very special friends Jay and Louise Wishart and Family; and her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her love and memories will remain alive in those who were lucky enough to know her.
A time of visitation will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 6-8pm in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St. Milford, DE 19963. On Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 1:00pm, a funeral will be held at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Milford Community Cemetery.
