Linda Karen Purnell

Linda K. Purnell,68, of Georgetown passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 surrounded by family. Linda, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend was born April 23, 1954.

She spent her formative years in Kimmey-town with her sister, Pamela Johnson and their many cousins (The Passwaters) and friends. Linda is a Sussex Central Class of ‘72 graduate who was affectionately known as “Reds”. Upon marrying the love of her life, Charles Purnell, on November 21, 1973, the couple soon began their family. While raising their children, maintaining her home and garden, Linda worked for several years as an in-home private healthcare provider. As an active member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Millsboro, Linda served as an Intercessor, a Youth Leader as well as an exemplary alto in several choirs including the Senior Choir and The Call. Linda was known for her faithfulness, kindness, generosity and especially…love– which is what she called her secret ingredient in every meal and dessert she made.

Linda is survived by her four daughters: Candace Morgan (Christopher), Amy Purnell, Adele Hatton (Dominic), and Jessica Quailes (Kevin); five grandchildren: Shahon Deshields, Nyla Hatton, Dominic Hatton, Aaron Morgan and JaeAna Purnell; Sister: Pamela A. Johnson and Linda Crum along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and church family. Linda was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Charles F. Purnell; Parents: Alfred P. Johnson and Eleanor King Johnson.

A funeral service will be held at Friendship United Methodist Church, 30983 Friendship Road, Millsboro, DE on Monday, January 16, 2023, at 12:00 pm. and time of visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm for friends and family.
