Margaret (Margie) Elizabeth Shrieves, 89, passed away peacefully at home in Georgetown, DE, on August 26, 2023. Born on September 13, 1933, in Baltimore MD, she was the loving daughter of the late Glenn and Barbara Smithson. She is survived by her two sons, John Shrieves of Addison, TX, and Kevin Shrieves of Lusby, MD, daughter-in-law Margo Shrieves, and her granddaughters, Casandra (Casey) Hampton of Houston, TX, and Emily Shrieves of Lusby, MD, along with several nieces and nephews. Margie was preceded in death by the love of her life, John Brady Shrieves Jr., her sisters, Barbara Kelley and Phyllis Spencer, and brother, Glenn Smithson.
Margie lived her life to the fullest and was always on the go. She has always immersed herself in every community she has been a part of, loving to be with friends and family. In recent years, Margie spent lots of time with her extended family at Rust’s Sandwich Shop. She also enjoyed arranging luncheons for her friends in the SLICE exercise group at the CHEER Center. Margie was a skilled artist who painted, sketched, and hand carved waterfowl and birds. Throughout her whole life, Margie was devoted to her Catholic faith and was an active part of her church communities.
Above all else, Margie will be remembered for her caring heart, unwavering faith, her ability to always speak her mind. She was true to herself, her family, and her faith. She did it her way.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, September 7, 2023 from 5-7pm in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, De 19947.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, September 8, 2023 at 11:00am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 202 Edward Street, Georgetown, De 19947. Interment will follow at Asbury UMC Cemetery in Princess Anne, Md.
In lieu of flowers the family welcomes memorial contributions to: CHEER Meals on Wheels, 546 S. Bedford Street, Georgetown, DE 19947.
