Margaret May (Fitzgerald) Helsdon

Margaret May (Fitzgerald) Helsdon, 73, of Lincoln, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023, at Bayhealth Sussex Campus in Milford, Delaware.

Margaret was born in Milford on September 14, 1949, to the late Willis and Lillian (Stokes) Fitzgerald.

Known to everyone as Maggie, she was a lifetime Delawarean who spent her time crabbing, traveling, camping, shopping, going for car rides, and playing bingo. She worked for 25 years at the High Seas Motel in Rehoboth Beach. Later in life, she enjoyed working at the Milford Senior Center and caring for her beloved Australian Shepherd, Bear-Bear. She loved Elvis and classic western movies, particularly ones starring John Wayne. Above all, she cherished her role as “Mom-Mom”, and loved to surround herself with extended family and friends, whether in person or catching up over the phone.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded by her son, Jeffrey A. Jones; and her brother, Ernest Fitzgerald.

She will be greatly missed by her husband of 32 years, Timothy J. Helsdon; her daughters, Teresa Chen and husband Gregory, and Tina Hills and husband Michael; her brother, Kenneth Fitzgerald; her sister, Mary Speakman; her grandchildren, Victoria and husband Daniel, Amanda, Hillary and husband Austin, Kaleb and wife Sierra, and Jordyn; as well as 7 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 1:00pm in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St. Milford, DE 19963. A time of visitation will begin at noon. Interment will follow at Milford Community Cemetery.
