Marie E. Swain

Marie E. Swain, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away suddenly on January 27, 2025, at Beebe Hospital in Lewes, Delaware. Born on January 25, 1936, in Milford, Delaware, and raised in Selbyville, Delaware, she graduated from Selbyville High School in the class of 1954.

Marie and her husband, H. Linden Swain, shared their lives and dreams through their partnership, notably owning a Tastee Freez in Harrington. Marie's warm personality and strong work ethic were evident as she balanced her career while raising three children.

Later in life, Marie worked in childcare, nurturing and caring for the children within her community, a testament to her deep love for family and commitment to nurturing future generations. Marie's greatest joy came from her family, cherishing the time spent with her husband Linden and their children; Linda Sizemore (Chris), Howard Swain (Maria), and Paul Swain, grandchildren; Luke Sizemore (Allison), Chelsea Sizemore (Matt Gibbons), Michael Swain, Daniel Swain (Steph), as well as her great-grandchildren; Liam, Alice, Charlotte, and Edison.

Marie’s parents, George and Ella (Shockley) Evans, predeceased her, as well as her aunt Ethel Walker, who raised her from age ten until Marie's marriage in 1954. Throughout her life, Marie loved her family deeply, a sentiment that will forever resonate with those who knew her.

Marie E. Swain’s legacy of kindness, hard work, and devotion will continue to inspire her family and friends. A visitation will be held at Short Funeral Services in Georgetown, Delaware, on Saturday, February 8, 2025, beginning at 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service starting at 12:00 PM. The family invites all who knew Marie to join in remembering a remarkable woman whose love will never be forgotten.
