Martha E. Wilcutts

Martha (Marty) Tappan Wilcutts passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on September 22, 2023. Marty was born in Milford DE and raised in Williamsville DE, by her parents James and Margaret Elliott.

She was preceded in death by her husband Byron Tappan; brothers, Richard and Donald Elliott; sisters, Peggy Holleger, Arlene Parsons, and Ann Calhoun.

She is survived by a sister, Patricia Jump; and sister-in-law, Lois Elliott. She was the proud mother of eight children, Dennis Tappan (Rose), Glenn Tappan (Nanci), Brian Tappan (Nancy), Cheryl Tappan Fuchs (Bill), Donnie Tappan (Linda), Robert Tappan (Debbie), Dana Tappan (Dee), and Alan Wilcutts (Becky). Marty will also be greatly missed by her 16 Grandchildren, 33 Great Grandchildren, 13 Great Great Grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and treasured friends.

Marty was recognized as being kind, caring, generous, positive, and non-judgmental. Many will remember Marty from Sheldon’s Market in Lincoln, where often, customers would delay ordering subs if she was not available. Marty would like to be remembered for doing the best possible for her children. She loved listening to her Dad play guitar, pull her on a sled, playing in the woods and making ice cream with the family. Additionally, she enjoyed annual family gatherings in Deep Creek, MD, Summersville, WVA, and Charlottesville, VA. Christmas was her favorite time of the year, decorating, sharing time with, and spoiling her large family. Later in life she would offer to work Christmas mornings to allow co-workers with children to have time with their families.

The family would like to thank the staff of Bayhealth Milford for their care and attention.

Friends and family are invited to attend services at Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 North West Front St., Milford, Delaware on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 12pm. The visitation will begin at 10am.

In lieu of flowers, Marty would request participation in ADOPT A FAMILY or TOYS FOR TOTS during the Christmas season.
