Martha Jane White

Martha Jane White, a beacon of warmth and kindness, departed unexpectedly while at Beebe Medical Center of Lewes, DE, on July 6, 2024, at the age of 65. Born on October 5, 1958, in Salisbury, MD, she was the daughter of the late Herman Edward Stevens and Thelma Virginia Pennewell, and a loving sister to the late John Stevens.

Martha's zest for life and her contagious smile made her a cherished presence in the lives of many. She is survived by her devoted husband, Phillip V. White, and her caring siblings, Mary Higgins, David Stevens, and Margaret Stephenson. Her legacy will live on through the joyous lives of her three great-grandchildren, Brody, Everly, and Braelyn. Her family circle extends to include her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gary and Pauline White, Sharon and Billy Ennis, Greg and Jamie White, Rebecca Taylor White and Penny and Presley. Martha also held a special place in her heart for her dear family friends, Mark and Sandy Smith, Kay and Mark Wyatt, Tara and Austin Shelley, Mark and Cally Wyatt, Jessica Gibbons, Thomas and Melissa Gibbons, Marty Smith, Dawn and Taylor Cox, John Thomas. She also had her North Carolina friends that she held dear Hazel, Rhonda, Rena and Susan as well as her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family members, and friends.

Martha's professional journey was marked by her role as a cashier at Food Lion, where her infectious laugh and tender-hearted nature brightened the days of her customers and colleagues alike. Her time at 3 Star Deli and as a babysitter were filled with fond memories created helping others.

A social butterfly who loved flower gardening, Martha also took joy in surrounding herself with beauty through shopping, decorating her home for different seasons, and embracing her passion for animals. Her adventurous spirit shone brightly as she followed local stock car racing and NASCAR, where she was known as a dedicated fan.

Those who knew Martha would describe her as friendly, loving, and adventurous. Her ability to connect with people from all walks of life made her a cherished friend and an irreplaceable member of her community. Martha's radiance will be missed, but the love and laughter she shared will continue to echo in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known her. A time of visitation will take place on Friday, July 12, 2024, from 11:00am-12:30pm in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St. Milton, DE 19968. A celebration of life will follow at 12:30pm. Interment is private.
